At Gaplast, we see sustainability as an innovation driver and have done so for 30 years. We have tackled a lot in recent years and have also achieved a lot. Sustainability is a continuous process, it is always about developing further as a whole company. According to the motto “We are working on it”.
To this end, we have formulated 6 key fields of action across all corporate divisions that reflect our daily activities. Sustainability begins with product development. We therefore pay attention to the recyclability of our products, use materials made from renewable raw materials, and use secondary raw materials from post-consumer recycling wherever possible.
Product safety is a key issue for us, so we work closely with analytical laboratories and toxicologists to ensure this.
To conserve valuable resources, we only use as much material that is absolutely necessary for optimal packaging.
Our production sites are highly energy-efficient, and our machinery is continuously kept up to date with the latest technology in order to conserve valuable resources.
As an owner-managed family business, we are a reliable partner who cares about long-term relationships with our customers and suppliers.
Our focus is on socially and environmentally compatible growth.
Our large number of patents ensures us a long-term and thus sustainable differentiation in the market.
As entrepreneurs, we are responsible for protecting and preserving our environment and natural resources. We do this by keeping our ecological footprint as small as possible.
Since 2021, we have been using green electricity from hydropower at our sites. We have installed a photovoltaic system on our production buildings, which will supply electricity for our production and our e-vehicles from 2022.
We have set ourselves the goal of becoming a CO2 neutral company by 2030 at the latest and would like to support the efforts of the European environmental policy.
Therefore, we have drawn up our CO2 balance for 2020 together for our two sites in Peiting and Altenau in order to know our annual greenhouse gas emissions at our sites.
We are continuously working on further reducing our emissions and will offset unavoidable CO2 emissions with certified projects in the future.
We critically question our mobility behavior and try to decarbonize our vehicle fleet step by step through avoidance and the conversion to more climate-friendly e-drives.
Every year, we train about 20 apprentices in 9 professions. We are pleased that most of them stay with the company after their training or continue their education.
We actively encourage the desire for further training and strive to recruit future managers from our own ranks.
The highest level of occupational safety is central; our goal is to achieve zero occupational accidents. Personal protective equipment and continuous training helps us to ensure this.
In addition, we focus on sustainable health, and our company doctor is available at regular intervals to advise our employees.
We work continuously and actively with professional associations to adapt to legal changes and technical developments and to anticipate and respond to them.
We are involved in research cooperations with universities and industry in order to create new products together.
